Award winning author of academic books, professor, and policy-maker 

I am an award-winning Professor of Heritage at the University of Kent. I also regularly act as a consultant on heritage projects and policy making for international organisations (e.g. UNESCO, the World Bank) and governments (e.g. South Korea). I am (co)author or (co)editor of 13 books and over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.

My research has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Global Challenges Research Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Artswork, the European Cultural Foundation, the Charles de Gaulle Foundation, English Heritage, and the Swedish National Heritage Board.

I received the 2023 Reimar Lüst Prize from the Humboldt Foundation, the 2022 European Archaeological Heritage Prize from the European Association of Archaeologists, and the 2008 Cultural Policy Research Award.

I have been a fellow at the Getty Conservation Institute (2006-2007), Stanford University (2010-2011), Durham University (2012), Manchester Museum (2014), the National Gallery of Denmark (2014), and the University of Bamberg (2022).

My research is regularly cited in popular media, including TVE 1, Newsweek, CBC, The Independent, and The Conversation.
